Andy Warhol

Andy Warhol

Andy Warhol is one of the most influential figures from contemporary art and culture. In the 20th century, he utilized every available medium. These skateboards are a fusion that would be completely in his wheelhouse. Just like Warhol’s pop art, they blur the lines between high and popular culture.

Jean-Michel Basquiat

Jean-Michel Basquiat

In the 80s, Jean-Michel Basquiat’s art could be found where skateboarding now thrives: on the city streets. By the time Basquiat rose to international stardom, his work was already legendary throughout New York. These skateboards celebrate his characteristic visual vocabulary that contains elements of jazz and modern pop culture.

Ai Weiwei

 White House de Ai Weiwei
à partir de € 640

Ai Weiwei

Ai Weiwei wears many hats: architect, curator, filmmaker, activist, and China’s most famous artist. In the year 2000, he made waves with a controversial art exhibition called Study of Perspective that included the piece “White House”: a concise expression of his political views and a remarkably apt image for the medium of skateboard decks.

Nobuyoshi Araki

 Orchid de Nobuyoshi Araki
à partir de € 580

Nobuyoshi Araki

Nobuyoshi Araki is Japan's best-known photographer and its most controversial cultural export. He captures Tokyo’s obscene energy and inhuman emptiness in the city’s sex clubs, entertainment district, crowded streets, buildings, and skies. In these skateboard decks, flowers exude the sexuality we are accustomed to in his other works.

Robert Rauschenberg

 Banner de Robert Rauschenberg
à partir de € 490

Robert Rauschenberg

Robert Rauschenberg always liked to weave different genres into each other. His art is a continuous dialogue between diverse media, styles, and techniques. These skate decks are an indication of a wonderful relationship between the real object and the abstract, between art and the “ready-made.”

About The Skateroom

The Skateroom collaborates with renowned artists and their estates to release limited edition skate decks. The artists include household names like Ai Weiwei, Robert Rauschenberg, Jean-Michel Basquiat, and Shepard Fairey. Proceeds support social projects selected by the artists as well as the international organization Skateistan. An award-winning NGO, Skateistan currently works with over 1,500 at-risk youths from age 5-17.

10% of the proceeds goes directly to the project Skate and Create, which benefits youth in South Africa, Afghanistan, and Cambodia. This is a remarkable when you consider that just $20, for example, can provide 150 Afghan girls with safe transport to school for an entire week.
